A ceramic coating on matte factory paint is only a fit when the product data sheet names that finish. Matte paint is not the same surface as gloss clear coat, and it is not the same as matte paint protection film. Do not borrow a gloss-car process.

Three surfaces people mix up
Factory matte or satin paint. The clear coat, or the paint system, is designed to stay low-gloss. Aggressive polish can raise the gloss and ruin the look. Correction, if it happens at all, is a different, more conservative conversation than on a shiny daily.
Matte or satin PPF. A film with a flattened finish over whatever paint is underneath. Care follows the film sheet, not a paint-coating recipe.
Gloss paint with a coating. The common job on this site. Ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that bonds to paint and creates a hard, hydrophobic surface layer.
If the car is wrapped, that is a fourth surface. Can you ceramic coat a vinyl wrap is the wrap stack. Do not treat wrap, matte paint, and matte film as one product.
What to demand in writing
The product name and the data sheet line that lists matte or satin paint. If that line is missing, stop. A gloss coating that adds shine is a defect on a matte car, not a bonus.
Wash method for that product. Many matte finishes cannot take the same polish, wax, or compounding a gloss car can. This site does not invent a matte-safe chemical list. The installer names the approved wash.
Prep. Clay is a decontamination step, not paint correction. Ask whether clay is even appropriate on this finish. Do not clay a coated matte panel without the installer’s advice.

San Diego light makes the sample check matter
A matte panel in an Encinitas marine layer and the same panel in El Cajon afternoon sun read differently. Look at a sample on paint like yours, outdoors and in the shop, before you approve a whole car.
If the real goal is a matte look on gloss paint, that is film or wrap, not a coating that “flattens” gloss. Coating does not turn gloss paint matte.
